Hey guys,
I’m trying to extract some of the music from Delta Force Black Hawk Down from the .sbf file so I can use a few tracks for some map projects I’m currently working on. Some of the tracks in the game have different versions or variations that I haven’t been able to find anywhere online, and I’m hoping I might even stumble on a few unused ones in there too.
I’ve looked around but haven’t had any luck finding a tool that can open or extract these files. Anyone here know how to do it or what I should use?
For context, the .sbf file contains all of the music for the game. Stuff like the main menu music, the track that plays when you win/lose a mission in single player, and even some special vars that work with area triggers which aren’t used in Joint Ops since there’s no actual mission music setup unlike DBHD. These files can’t be opened with a .pff editor, so there must be some other tool that can open and edit them.If anyone knows a way to do it I would appreciate that!

Hi Nova,
I personally use Raven’s PFF tool a lot, but for music I have an alternative trick:
1).I use Windows Xbox game bar to record audio, in your case the Black Hawk Down soundtrack; which happens to be on youtube, at least the menu music
2).Open up/add the recording in Windows clipchamp
3).Edit the recording and export
4a).Either separate audio from video by opening and exporting the recording again, or convert it online from mp4 to wave
4b).Which website to use depends on your needs:
-to convert audio to wave with the correct ammount of Hertz that can be recognized by the game, I use AudioMass (free website). When exporting, choose “Mono” and “Wave 4411Hertz”
-to convert file types to other types, I use Convertio (free website)
Long story short: if your .sbf cannot be found, there are ways around to still find and use some Black Hawk Down music. I personally love this game as well as good old Task Force Dagger, so I sincerely hope your project will be a great success. Hopefully this info may help you on your way (a bit).

Thanks for the reply,
Yeah, I’m already familiar with converting custom .wav files for Joint Ops so that they can be played in game. I even made a single-player map about a month ago that I haven’t released to the public yet, which used music and dialogue from BHD. The thing is, the .sbf files are totally different from the usual .pff files, which is probably why the music isn’t accessible through the usual tools. If I recall correctly, Novalogic was in a bit of trouble back in the 2004–2005 era, where they were fined for using unlicensed software like Windows, Photoshop, etc. and I’m guessing that’s why some of these internal tools never got released to the public. (I could be wrong, this is only speculation on my part)
Ever since I started playing DBHD a couple of months ago, I was immediately hooked. I’ve been wanting to bring some of those ideas from that game into Joint Ops, maybe even recreate a few of the original single player missions at some point which I probably will. The games are so much alike to the point where I think the only real difference is the better graphics Joint Ops has. Many features from BHD such as animations, WAC commands, buildings, sounds and other assets are present in JO.
Right now I’m working on this convoy coop map inspired by DBHD style, and I think the soundtracks from that game would fit perfectly. That’s what really got me digging into these .sbf files in the first place, because as I said, while I can find the original soundtracks from that game, there are some variations that play only during the single player missions that I wasn’t able to find anywhere online. So, I guess the only option at this point is to record them in-game and convert them in the proper format.

Record them in-game…with all the sound muted except the music ^_^ Then you will have your original songs. Good luck with your projects. I hope they will be what you want them to be, to have the same atmosphere/vibe BHD has/had. I can relate, this game is awesome.
