ALL OPTIONS ARE GREYED OUT!!! I can no longer open any project files!
It used to work until start of this year. I mainly use NLH6.6.5. to edit ‘[AINAMES]’.
I uninstalled and reinstalled NILE and NLH, still the same problem. I can’t get it working on XP but now it fails on WIN10 as well.
I have invested a LOT of time in the maps I am working on right now.

Thank the guy who made that tool, thank him for both. 1) for making such a great tool, and 2) for creating it from the start (in contrary what he said about that) so that at a certain Version/date you couldnt use the tool anymore without a valid license. And since the people creating stuff like that arent around for quite a while anymore, at some point all the services that keep these things running, are simply gone and not working anymore.
So basically, if you put money into this tool, you’re screwed now. I dont remember anymore at which point (version) it was required to have that license. Older versions I remember still worked without, but lacked major features compared to the newer.
I always said it was a screwy business that came with that “sudden” license. Wasn’t his name “OldMan” or some like that ? Totally forgot all those things by now.
And I can imagine how frustrating that can be, now having a tool that doesnt work anymore, after you put a lot of work into a map or multiple maps. đ

Yes, tool is made by OldMan. I have the shareware version 6.6.5. The only useful feature is the option to add AI names. My older version 3.8 is still working but does not have this feature.
Captain, can you create a tool to edit the bin file and add AI names? That would be very helpful.

Devilsclaw already made a tool to convert bin to text and vice versa but there is significant loss of data during the conversion and as a result it is not possible to edit or include ai names.
Btw, please give OldMan some credit! I have a lot of information that comes from him like how ploop and gloop works you will not find elsewhere. I am willing to accept this particular tool is no longer working. He wanted to unlock the full potential of this game and he managed to do just that. I respect that!

I never said that OldMan didnt do something great with NLH, there is no question about that. BUT, the way he went with the tool (knowing it would out of a sudden cost money, before everyone else knew it would just not work anymore without a paying license!) is what I cant really agree on that its commendable. He knew from the start that it would go that way, he programmed it to at some point not work for free anymore.
And with that, after years, the chances only added up that at some point all those requiring that license to work with it, would not be able to use it anymore, if for some reason (whatsoever) his system would not work anymore. Not a great move on his side !

He’s probably working at MS headquarters now with that attitude, meticulously preparing scripts to overwrite EOL drivers without warning.

I am not the one with mapmaking questions that can be answered by executing some simple tests with terrain and environment settings. In fact, I don’t have any map making questions at all!

Neither am I the one who writes snarky responses when someone asks a simple question about the game. I thought we were here to offer advice and help, whether it be something simple about darkest night settings in games or deep coding. If you can’t respond nicely then I suggest you shut your gob, or you’ll get snarky responses back.

This game has been around since 2004 and you are asking FAQ’s in 2o18… smh
You should not be upset with me, you should be upset with your lack of apprehensiveness because that appears to be your main mapmaking challenge. Setting time of day and watermurk is a question of increasing or decreasing numerical values. How can that even be a challenge?

Ok, to my surprise I resolved this issue today after downloading some maps for WIQ..
All I needed to know was this:
BIN:
‘[AINames]’
AI_Name01 = “Dick Turpin”;WAC:
if never then ssnname xxxx,AI_Name01 endif
That simple!
